PHOENIX Doris Jean Tichy (nee Eckman), of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on July 29, 2018 at the age of 82. She was born in Akron, Ohio on September 24, 1935 to the late Ellis and Lucille Eckman. Doris is affectionately remembered by her friends and family as a dreamer, expert shopper and devout Catholic. She loved tradition and family, enforcing several food traditions including the Grandma Tichy salad. It also proved difficult for Doris to find a shopping partner, as her trips were both thorough and lengthy. She was also a very talented crafter and personalized birthday cards to each member of the family. She would add the “made in the ‘T’ house” label to all of her beautiful creations, which truly showed her ability to put love into everything she touched. Even though Doris was very family-centric, she was also hard working. She worked for Revlon for many years and later retired in Phoenix, AZ. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Joseph Tichy, her parents, Ellis and Lucille Eckman and her brother, James Eckman. She is survived by her sons, Richard, John (Michele), and Mark (April) Tichy, and her daughter, Patricia (Keith) Pendergast. She is also survived by her sister Susan (David) Piper, brother David (Cheryl) Eckman, sister-in-law Beverly Eckman and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The service will be on Friday, August 24, 2018. Calling hours will be from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM with Mass at 10:30 AM at the Heritage Funeral Chapel, 6830 W. Thunderbird Rd., Peoria, AZ 85381. Entombment will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Avondale, AZ immediately after the Mass.
