Rosen might sit out vs. Broncos

- Kent Somers

Cardinals coach Steve Wilks isn’t saying how much his starters will play Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Broncos, but judging from Tuesday’s practice, it won’t be much, if any at all.

Starters faced starters during a couple of portions of practice because “we wanted to make sure they were still on point and sharp just with the mechanics and the operations,” Wilks said.

That suggests that Thursday's game will feature backups.

The Cardinals spent a lot of time working on converting third downs on Tuesday.

The Cardinals are 3-0 in the preseason but have converted just 7 of 38 third downs (18.4 percent).

“Last week, I think it was just missed opportunities,” Wilks said. “The quarterbacks did a pretty good job at times of putting the ball on (receivers). We just have to make sure we look it in and catch the ball.

“There were times we can protect better, give the quarterback time to step up. It’s a number of things. We’re looking to correct those this week.”

Wilks is undecided if rookie quarterback Josh Rosen will play. Rosen missed Sunday’s game against Dallas with a bruised thumb but threw the ball well Tuesday during the portion of practice open to reporters.

Wilks said he will make a decision on Thursday if Rosen will play.

Golden, Gresham update

Defensive end Markus Golden (knee) and tight end Jermaine Gresham (Achilles'), both starters, remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list, and it’s questionable if they will come off that list before the final roster cuts of training camp.

A player who remains on PUP to start the season must miss at least the first six weeks of the season.

“I think it’s going to be close,” Wilks said.

“Those guys are progressing, so as we finish up next week, I think they’re going to be right there on the cusp.”

Injury update

Here are the players who didn’t appear to be participating in practice on Tuesday, based on the portion open to media: cornerback Jamar Taylor, defensive tackles Corey Peters, Robert Nkemdiche and Olsen Pierre, running back T.J. Logan, cornerback Brandon Williams and defensive end Vontarrius Dora.

Roster move

Running back D.J. Foster was placed on injured reserve, and the team re-signed running back Darius Victor.

Foster tore the ACL and MCL ligaments in his left knee Sunday night against the Cowboys.

Victor spent time on the Cardinals' practice squad last season and was released by the team on May. 1
