Gov. Ducey, let Cindy McCain take the seat and finish job

Now is the time for all of Arizona to let Gov. Doug Ducey know that Cindy McCain is the right person to serve the rest of her husband’s term. Many wives have done this.

Cindy McCain accompanied her husband everywhere, she knows the issues, knows how John McCain felt. Like her husband, she too has been active for years serving causes greater than herself.

Our country today is uncertain and divided. This is no time to take a chance on just anyone. Cindy McCain is strong and she can do it.

Thank you.

It is Trump’s way to use fear and division to excite the base

Just when I thought Donald Trump couldn’t do anything new to lower my opinion of him, I see that he has told evangelical leaders that there will be violence and existential threats to their religion if the GOP loses the midterm elections.

It is clear that there are no credible threats of this nature, and warnings of such would/should come from law enforcement anyway.

So why would Trump, in his current position, say such things? Because it is his MO to use fear and divisive rhetoric to motivate his base. Trump knows well that using fear is the fastest way to get people to abandon logic and reason. He used these tactics often in his campaign.

Evangelicals, in general, supported Trump in the last election. This despite his personal and business behavior over several decades, which has not been consistent with the ideals and standards advocated by the evangelical community.

Regardless, it is important for evangelical leaders to see through this obvious, cynical attempt at manipulation and urge their flocks to use clear, rational thinking in casting their votes in November. Our nation deserves no less.

Next time you vote, invoke McCain: Put country first

When voting in November, putting “Country First” should be in our hearts. My late father, a retired Navy chief and former WWII POW for 31⁄2 years, taught me to vote for the person who will do the best for our country.

I did not agree with how President Trump treated Sen. McCain, however he is doing a great job for our country. The word socialism makes me scared for our grandchildren. After being a Democrat for many years, I left the party.

Put our country first.

To compromise is not to go against your views or your party – it’s to use those views, working with others, to create solutions that work for everyone.

This is the vision of our founding fathers and of John McCain, who knew it and embraced it as well as any statesman in our history.

He respected those he disagreed with, and worked with them to forge comprehensive solutions.

I believe that in Congress, even today, we have a good representation of the variety of views across this country.

We just need these folks to work together to forge true, sustainable solutions.

What we don’t need is for a 51-49 percent vote to lead to one extreme, followed

With the recent passing of Senator John McCain, not only have we lost a special person and leader, we now mourn the loss of decency and civility.

Who else is going to speak up and tell it like it is? With few exceptions, no one in the Republican leadership has the courage to do just that.

Sen. McCain recently noted that “we are in dark times and it’s going to get darker.”

Be fearful, my friends. Be very fearful.
