Youths score with gifts from Cards’ Johnson

- From Staff Reports JACK LECHICH

Arizona Cardinals star running back David Johnson and his wife, Meghan, on Monday donated a cart full of video games and game consoles during a visit to Cardon Children’s Medical Center in Mesa.

The Johnson Family Mission 31 Foundation was established by the couple in October 2017 to provide opportunities, support and resources to seriously ill children, according to its website.

At the hospital, Johnson through his foundation donated “David’s Locker,” a cart containing Sony PlayStations, Apple iPads, Nintendo Switches and video games, that the kids will use to distract and comfort them during treatment.

Johnson, Meghan and their son, David Jr., also talked about the importance of their cause while visiting the hospital, at U.S. 60 and Dobson Road.

“The goal of our foundation is to impact children’s lives,” Johnson said. “Being there for the children and their families. Distracting them during the tough times. I know kids love video games and our biggest thing is getting these (David’s Locker) in as many hospitals as we can.”

After a brief questionand-answer session, David Johnson cut a ribbon and unveiled his cart of goodies, signed autographs and started playing games, such as Subway Surfer and Candy Crush, with children who are patients at the hospital.

“We are thankful to David and Meghan for this gift, which will provide our youngest patients with both educational and entertainment opportunities during their recovery,” Banner Health Foundation President and CEO Andy Kramer Petersen said. “The Mission 31 Foundation understands the needs of children, and this gift will certainly put a lot of smiles on young faces.”
