CHANDLER – Paul J. Fanning, 92, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2018 at the Copper Creek Memory Care Center in Chandler, Arizona. Paul made the valley his home for the last 30 years with his wife Carole, who predecease­d him in 2016. He was born in Orlando, Florida to Paul and Rhea Fanning on March 30, 1926. He served as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The first half of his adult life was spent in the San Francisco bay area where he had a long successful career as an agency manager with Equitable Life Insurance. He later transferre­d to Portland, Oregon as an agency manager, retiring in 1982. During his career with Equitable he won the National Quality Award 8 times and the Presidenti­al Award 3 consecutiv­e years. His hobbies included anything sports related with tennis being at the top of the list. He was commonly known as King of the Courts at the Pointe South Mountain. He was a devoted 49’r fan. Most of all, Paul loved people and did what he could to encourage a smile from anyone he encountere­d. Paul is survived by his family Robbyn McDowell and Scott Fehrman, Scott and Gayla Fanning, Mark and Barb Fanning, Michelle and John Doherty, Siobhan Croy, Kevin and Maggie Wray, Jennifer Frazier and Jay Foster, Shawna and Todd Basset, Cole Fanning, Jack Fanning, Shae Fanning, Jayden and Solana Frazier, Lennox Foster, Brooklyn, Bruin, Bryce and Brea Bassett, Ryan Wray and Amber Mahley. The family wants to express their gratitude to the staff at Copper Creek Memory Care and Hospice of the Valley for the loving care they provided Paul in his last years. A service will be held at the Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, at 8:00 a.m. Saturday October 20, followed by a reception. A private burial will be held later that day. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributi­ons be made to Hospice of the Valley.
