It’s Trump who most infuriates Democrats

-

Columnist John Gabriel tried to slam the Democrats for demonstrating their dislike of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Please, someone explain to him and most other hard-right folks that all the discord among Democrats and many independents is mostly about Trump. We all have a extreme dislike bordering on hatred for the ridiculous and lying president. The supporters of this huckster are equally disgusting, which lead to demonstrations that show the depth of anger felt for most everything from his mouth. Alan Amark, Gilbert

Help the liberals and add more stars to the American flag

The libs In California and New York want to upset the U.S. Constitution because they don’t have enough clout in the U.S. Senate and the Electoral College.

They resent that Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Delaware, Vermont, Alaska and Montana have more sway than their puny populations justify.

Here is another solution that does not require trashing the Constitution:

Secede from the union. California would not be missed. Or better yet, carve themselves up into additional states. Such a proposal has been the talk of California for years and upstate New Yorkers might just go for making New York City its own state.

Why not a 51, 52 or more star flag? Mark Wallig, Mesa

Ducey is working from the same playbook as man in White House

Doug Ducey acts like a dictator. For example, he engineers a raid on the state trust fund to give the impression he has made up for past education under-funding, then gives more money to schools only when he is forced to in order to save his political hide.

He packs the state Supreme Court to his advantage; bows down to dark money forces and kneels at the feet of the Koch brothers; does nothing to change global warming and if anything helps contribute to the problem; helps charter schools rob public school funds that is a scam to enrich operators who have no accountability; creates his own narrative and fires employees who don’t provide positive propaganda, facts be damned.

If anything, Doug Ducey is like Donald Trump, without tweets and the over the top self-glorifying rallies. Doug Ducey is a polished up Donald Trump. Break all the norms and only reward your political cronies. When the norms are broken beyond recognition and power is absolute, certain measures to remediate this political overreach are necessary. Such as, making changes to the state Constitution.

There are no sacred institutions anymore. It’s time for a new playbook. Doug and Don have one. Nicholas Madison, Phoenix

The people can change politics and end nasty television ads

I can’t believe that we, as consumers, allow the type of ads flooding the airwaves. If they were promoting any consumer product they would never be allowed on the air. Yet we allow these ads and write them off as just politics as usual.

These people are vying to be leaders of our community, our state and our country. If they can’t do any better than say, “Vote for me because my opponent is a horrible person,” then maybe they aren’t the right person to lead us.

Tell me what you have done, what your vision is for the future and how you are the right person to lead us into that future. Doing so you will have a much better chance of securing my vote.

We The People have the power to change the tone of the political landscape and stop this type of negative advertising. Think about his when you cast your ballot in the coming days. Are you voting for someone with a vision or for someone who only told you their opponent is a bad person? Keith E. Deutscher, Tempe
