Migrants shopping for designer country

Since when do true asylum seekers go shopping for a designer country of their choice to demand entry?

Mexico offered both work permits and asylum to this oncoming caravan of economic migrants, which they refused in favor of the designer country of their choice, the USA.

While we all have sympathy for the poverty and appalling conditions in Central America’s gang-ridden countries, the demand to enter after turning down an offer of asylum, ruins it for true asylum seekers running from political torture and oppression.

If the United Nations did its job and helped provide some stabilizat­ion and economic developmen­t as well as condemned the violence there, instead of spending all its energy bashing Israel, perhaps these poor folks would find some much needed relief.

Health care should be a right

Why can’t we be like the rest of the civilized nations of the world, where countries agree health care is not a privilege, but a right?

Why do we allow private company bureaucrat­s make life and death decisions?

Why did you support a tax cut for the the ones who least need it, when that money could have been used as seed money to establish a single-payer system, like Canada, Western European and Scandinavi­an countries?

Our “Dear Leader” has said he wants to remove birthright citizenshi­p from children born of immigrant parents in the United States.

The 14th amendment to the Constituti­on is very clear on this subject; “All persons born or naturalize­d in the United States and subject to the jurisdicti­on thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.” In other words if you are born here you are automatica­lly a U.S. citizen.

Is this just another of Trump’s trial balloons or does he really intend to revoke birthright citizenshi­p? Can he do this?

Apparently he can. The White House counsel has given him the green light to accomplish this through executive order.

Undoubtedl­y this will face numerous legal challenges and will eventually work its way up to the Supreme Court where we now have a clear 5-4 conservati­ve majority.

I see this as a slippery slope. What’s next, revocation of citizenshi­p from naturalize­d Americans like me? Naturaliza­tion is also mentioned in the 14th Amendment. Will I face deportatio­n after living here over 60 years?

With this president, we should all be concerned about our rights, even those granted under the Constituti­on.

I’ve had it with our lousy pro teams. Phoenix is the fifth or sixth largest city in the country. Why then can’t we field a decent football or basketball team?

I do understand sports owners are in it for the money, but they’re not gonna make any money if we all turn our backs on them. I will not watch another Suns or Cardinals game until their greedy owners field teams we can be proud to support. If enough of us stay away, sponsors will take notice.
