BIG 12 ROUNDUP
No. 12 West Virginia 42, No. 15 Texas 41: West Virginia’s Will Grier threw a 33-yard touchdown pass to Gary Jennings with 16 seconds left, and then ran in the 2-point conversion to send the visiting Mountaineers to a win. The 2-point conversion came moments after Grier connected with David Sills. Texas had called timeout just before the ball was snapped so the Mountaineers had to line up again. Grier dropped back, took a step into the pocket, and then swung out to his left to break for the corner of the end zone. Grier drove the Mountaineers (7-1, 5-1 Big 12, No. 13 CFP) to the win after Texas (6-3, 4-2, No. 17 CFP) grabbed a 41-34 lead on Sam Ehlinger’s touchdown throw to Devin Duvernay with 2:34 to play.
Iowa State 27, Kansas 3: Brock Purdy threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns, two of them big-play strikes to Hakeem Butler, and Iowa State rolled to a victory over host Kansas. David Montgomery ran for 67 yards and Purdy added 53 more on the ground as the Cyclones (5-3, 4-2 Big 12) won their fourth straight, all since putting their freshman quarterback under center. The Jayhawks’ (3-6, 1-5) Peyton Bender was just 19 of 40 for 185 yards, though he had several passes dropped.
Baylor 35, Oklahoma State 31: Charlie Brewer threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Denzel Mims with seven seconds left to give host Baylor a win. Brewer led the Bears (5-4, 3-3 Big 12) to consecutive touchdown drives, including a 36-yard TD pass to Jalen Hurd with 5:43 left. Baylor’s game-winning drive started after Oklahoma State (5-4, 2-4) was stopped on fourth down, when Chris Miller sacked Taylor Cornelius for a 9-yard loss with 1:31 left.
TCU 14, Kansas State 13: Mike Collins threw a 67yard touchdown pass to Jalen Reagor in the third quarter and host TCU held on for a win over Kansas State after the Wildcats missed a potential gametying extra point in the fourth. The Horned Frogs (4-5, 2-4 Big 12) avoided the first four-game losing streak in 18 seasons under coach Gary Patterson.
