Thank you, Oprah. This white-male Republican will now update his profile
I listened to Oprah’s speech last week. It was very powerful and informative.
I learned that solely because I’m a white-male Republican, I am a racist, a xenophobe, a homophobe, a couple other phobes, anti-woman and anti-disabled.
What really surprised me is that apparently I want to throw my grandmother off a cliff somewhere.
Now that I know who I am, I need to update my profile on Facebook.

A message to the Republican citizens from an independent voter
While I agree that we need to have a stronger border and a better system in place for processing immigrants, it does not blind me to the fact that Trump’s message is filled with hate, racism and general negativity.
Imagine for a moment that instead of sending troops to the border as if they were being sent into war, our commander-in-chief had the depth and sensitivity to say something such as, “We are sending troops to aid existing personnel in the humanitarian crisis approaching our border.”
See the difference?
The end result is still the same, but instead of looking like animals defending a carcass, we look like Americans.

To ‘Arizona Republic’ journalists: Your left-wing bias is showing
I am truly disgusted with your newspaper. The liberal bias is palpable what with horrible political cartoons (which by the way offer no humor), left-leaning letters to the editor chosen most predominantly, and an editorial board that would endorse a senatorial candidate simply because she was emotionless during the debate, without any merit given to what her opponent has accomplished.
I see no fairness in your coverage of Republican candidates running in any Arizona election. Are you trying to be the New York Times of Arizona?
If so you’ve accomplished your goal! Avis McCarthy, Buckeye
State parks director needs to go; it should not take this long
Good riddance to Sue Black, Arizona’s director State Parks and Trails.
I’m just sorry it is taking so long and that she is still getting her $170,000 annual pay.
She is a truly horrible person. Suzanne Kuehn, Peoria
The time is now to do your duty as a citizen of this great country
Your vote is important.
Your vote matters.
Your vote can bring about change. Your vote means you care about our country.
It is your civic duty to vote. Millions fought for the right to vote. If you haven’t, please vote!

All we need is a Swedish caravan and Trump will roll out red carpet
So the Demagogue in Chief wants to send up to 15,000 U.S. troops to intercept the horde of “rapists,” “bad hombres,” “terrorists” and “MS 13 gang members.”
This is racist, xenophobic, inhumane tripe.
That’s more troops than actual caravan numbers.
These “persons” are refugee families fleeing violence, corruption and lack of opportunity in their native countries.
What country offers the best opportunity for immigrants wanting to provide for their own families?
The United States of America! Americans should be proud of this distinction.
Can the richest country in the history of the world deny these people?
I’ll bet that if that caravan had been populated by Swedish blonde women under the age of 40, Trump would chair the welcoming committee.
