Mary Minnig

PHOENIX Our dear mother and grandmother, Mary Minnig, passed away on October 28, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 86 after a long battle with cancer. She was born on May 22, 1932 in Sandy, Utah to Vera and Anthon Hellstrom. She grew up in Sandy with her 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mary attended Jordan High School and graduated from the University of Utah in 1956 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She married Darrell Minnig on June 3, 1957, and they moved to Detroit, Michigan for Darrell’s medical residency. They welcomed their son, Jeff, in 1958 and their daughter, Stephanie, in 1960, before moving to Phoenix in 1962 to begin Darrell’s career as a general surgeon and to raise their family. They later joined the Phoenix Country Club where they enjoyed playing golf and bridge and spending time with friends and family.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Darrell, in 1982 and also by her beloved sisters, Zitelle, June, and Vera, and brothers, Jack, Willard, and Paul. She is survived by her son, Jeff, daughter, Stephanie and her husband Chuck, and five grandchildren, Alyssa, Tyler, Sara, Robbie, and Tori, and her brother, Gordon, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mary was a strong, brave, and independent woman who was happiest when she was doting on her children and grandchildren or spending time with her sisters and family.
