Outlook: McNeese, led by first-year coach Heath Schroyer, opened its season on Wednesday, losing at St. Mary’s 87-65. It got 26 points from Malik Hines, a graduate transfer from UMass who shot 11 of 14 from the field. Roydell Brown had a doubledoub­le with 12 points and 13 rebounds. The Cowboys are coming off a season in which they went 11-17 but have been restocked with the addition of 10 newcomers to go with five returning players. They were picked to finish seventh in the 13-team Southland Conference. ASU, led by fourthyear coach Bobby Hurley, was victorious in its opener, defeating Cal State-Fullerton 102-94 in doubleover­time on Tuesday. It was led by freshman guard Luguentz Dort who tossed in 28 points, nine of those in the overtimes. The Sun Devils expect to have a balanced offense and that was the case on Tuesday as all five starters finished in double figures. KImani Lawrence had 16 points and six rebounds. ASU has been picked to finish sixth in the Pac-12, coming off a 20-12 season. This will be the second meeting between the teams. ASU won the only other contest 81-61 in 2003.

Injury update: Martin has been slowed by an ankle injury but did play 31 minutes in Tuesday’s win. Hurley said after the game that his guard was at about 60 percent.
