- Weldon B. Johnson ARIZONA SNOWBOWL

If the cooler weather in Phoenix doesn’t have you thinking of winter, consider this: Skiing at Arizona Snowbowl is set to open this weekend.

Snowbowl, the ski area north of Flagstaff, is making snow and received an accumulation in October, so it will be ready for skiers starting Friday, Nov. 16.

The six-person, high-speed Grand Canyon Express chairlift will be open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily to give skiers access to four intermediate trails and three terrain park features. Midway Catwalk, Logjam, Roundup and Wild Turkey are the trails that will open.

In addition, the Little Spruce lift will put skiers on beginner terrain on Hart Prairie.

Visitors can rent ski and snowboard equipment and sign up for lessons at Hart Prairie Lodge, where the restaurant and bar will be open for breakfast and lunch.

Sunrise Park to open Nov. 23

Meanwhile, skiing at Sunrise Park Resort near Greer is scheduled to open on Friday, Nov. 23, according to the resort’s website and social media accounts.

Sunrise Park officials are touting the purchase of 10 new snowmaking machines and chilly nights in the White Mountains to help it be ready for skiers the day after Thanksgiving.
