The Believe Project: Woman gives back, with $100 at a time

- Grace Palmieri The Arizona Republic MICHAEL CHOW/THE REPUBLIC

If you could give $100 to someone in need, who would it be?

We asked, and you sent us your answers. This holiday season, The Believe Project is giving out $100 every day of December to recipients who you nominate.

Carolyn Gable launched the project five years ago in the Chicago suburbs to give anonymous gifts to people who she felt were in need of a bit of hope. Now, she’s expanding it to the Phoenix area, where she is a part-time resident.

The goal of the project is to pay it forward: You tell us who could use an extra $100, Gable chooses the recipients and

and azcentral.com provide some administrative help. Then the recipients pass on the gift.

Gable, who provides all gifts herself, has begun sorting through your Believe Project submissions.

Here is the first recipient.

Dec. 1: John Jay Pelletier

John wrote to us about an anonymous woman he sees walking her three children to school every morning. They live in a safe house for abused women, according to John’s submission.

“I feel for her and what she must be going through,” he wrote. “I wish I could help them but don’t know how.”

John hopes the $100 will help brighten her family’s holiday season.

Each day of December, Gable provides a $100 bill to a deserving recipient with the Believe Project.

If you know someone who could use $100, use this form to send in your nomination. We will announce the winners through Dec. 31 and even share some of their stories along the way.
