Professor Nutmeg is head of the class
Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Professor Nutmeg
Looking like a bobcat, but in a smaller and much more cuddly package, Professor Nutmeg is as adorable as they come. His large face, squishy cheeks, fluffy body and bobbed tail make him the perfect candidate to be mistake for his wild cousin.
The absolutely handsome 5-year-old medium-hair tabby was rescued by an Arizona Humane Society Emergency Animal Medical Technician™ when he got trapped in a barbed wire fence earlier this year. Luckily, the wounds around his body were easily treated in AHS’ animal trauma hospital, however it was quickly discovered that his tail was wounded beyond repair and needed to be amputated.
Although his tail may be smaller than before, his personality sure isn’t. Professor Nutmeg’s loving, sweet demeanor, may make it hard to pull yourself away from this expert cuddler with rumbling purrs. A big fan of getting pets, Nutmeg has also even been found snuggling up with his brush when his favorite humans aren’t around.
How to adopt
Professor Nutmeg will be available at noon today at the Arizona Humane Society’s Campus for Compassion location at 1521 W. Dobbins Road in Phoenix. His adoption fee includes his neuter surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.
