SUN LAKES – Essie Mae McGlothlin, age 89, of Sun Lakes, Arizona passed away peacefully on Saturday January 26, 2019. She was born October 13, 1929 in Golden Pond, Kentucky. She was one of six children born to Cordus Franklin and Mary Jane Vinson. Her family moved to East Peoria, Illinois in 1940. Essie married her late husband of 64 years, James (Jim) Howard McGlothlin on October 2, 1949. They had four daughters, Pamela Jean Ford, Jill Ann Lofgreen, Mendy Lou McGlothlin, and Tina Sue Jones. They moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1963 and joined First Baptist Church of Scottsdale the same year. Essie was the proud grandmothe­r to Erin Blasongame, Stacy Halbert, Megan Forbell, Jami Lofgreen, Kiera Lofgreen, and Brandon Jones. She was also proud of her six great grandchild­ren. After the four girls started school, Essie started working at Motorola from 1965 to 1975. She then worked for the Tempe School District from 1978 until she retired in 1988. After Jim’s retirement in 1989, they traveled to all the beautiful places they wanted to see and Essie’s favorite was Ireland. She always enjoyed coming back home. Essie thanked God for all her blessings and her greatest joy was in knowing Jesus her Savior, and the love she shared with her husband, children, family, and friends. At Essie’s request, a private family service will be held February 18, 2019 at Resthaven / Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens in Phoenix, Arizona.
