Vivian Osborn
SCOTTSDALE – Vivian Clydine Osborn (Newby) was born November 29, 1934 and went to be with the Lord on February 3, 2019. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha R. McDougall and father, Isaac Harris Newby; brother, Carl Newby; sister, Beverly McDougall. She is survived by husband Robert Leonard Osborn of 65 years, her daughters; Rochelle Lynn Mohamed (Mark) and Robyn Lee Osborn-Walker (Guerry Duncan), brother, Johnnie Ray McDougall, six granddaughters - Megan Smith (Bradley), Kristen Mohamed, Lauren Mohamed, Rachel Walker, Camille Walker, Elizabeth Walker; four great grandsons - Gabriel Alvarez, Kayden Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Apollo Smith. Vivian was born in Phoenix and spent much of her early years with her grandparents in Phoenix. She met her husband, Robert, at her grandfather’s skating rink when she was about 15 years old. They were married at Palmcroft Baptist Church in 1953. Vivian was a talented artistic hairdresser and won many competitions. She graduated from Cosmetology School, Western Marinello School of Beauty in Arizona in 1952. From 1962-1971 she owned and managed her own salon, Vivian’s Fountain of Beauty. She represented Arizona twice in the National Coiffure Creation. The first time she competed Arizona was in the top 5. The second time they won first. This is the highest award that can be won in the United States. This meant she could no longer compete in the US. For this reason she attended the European Hairdressing Olympics in Europe (Paris) in 1970. Vivian was inducted in to Hair America in 1961. She served as President of Phoenix Unit 2 of the Arizona Cosmetology Association. She later sold her salon and began teaching cosmetology at Phoenix Union High School. She completed her BA in Education from NAU in 1984 and taught Special Education. Through all of this she always made time for family. She loved her children, granddaughters and great grandsons. She was a kind and loving listener. Vivian was baptized with Robert on June 23, 2002 at St.Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church. She traveled the world on cruises with her husband and was always open to having a good time. Services are Tuesday, February 12, 10AM, at Greenwood Memory Lawn Serenity Chapel, 719 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85009.
