No. 1 Vols post 19th straight win

No. 1 Tennessee 85, South Carolina 73: Admiral Schofield had 21 points and 10 rebounds as host Tennessee (23-1, 11-0 SEC) defeated South Carolina (12-12, 7-4) on Wednesday for its school-record 19th consecutiv­e victory.

Tennessee owns the longest active winning streak of any active Division I team and is 11-0 in Southeaste­rn Conference competitio­n for the first time in school history. The Volunteers also earned their 23rd straight home win. Tennessee’s last home loss was a 94-84 setback against Auburn on Jan. 2, 2018.

South Carolina made a season-high 14 3-point baskets and shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc but couldn’t slow Tennessee’s high-powered offense. Tennessee was 9 of 20 on 3-point attempts.

Tennessee’s superior accuracy from shorter range made the difference. Tennessee was 25 of 49, while South Carolina was just 12 of 40 on 2-pointers.

No. 13 Villanova 85, Providence 67: Eric Paschall scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half and host Villanova (20-5, 11-1) rebounded from its first Big East loss by running away from Providence (14-11, 4-8).

Fellow senior Phil Booth added 22 for the Wildcats, who were fresh off a onepoint loss to No. 10 Marquette after getting off to a program best 10-0 start in league play.

Nate Watson led Providence with 18 points. The Friars have lost four of their last five but were coming off an impressive 14-point road win at St. John’s on Saturday.

No. 17 Florida State 88, Wake Forest 66: Senior Christ Koumadje recorded his first career double-double, with 20 points and 12 rebounds, to help host Florida State (19-5, 7-4 ACC) beat Wake Forest (9-14, 2-9).

Koumadje, a 7-foot-4 center who is playing in his 109th career game, made 10 of 12 shots from the floor and set a career high in rebounds as the Seminoles won their sixth straight game.

Phil Cofer scored 13 points and Mfiondu Kabengele had nine points and seven rebounds for Florida State.

Top 10 women

No. 1 Baylor 71, Kansas State 48: Chloe Jackson scored 16 points and Baylor used a good shooting night and solid defense to rout Kansas State .

Juicy Landrum added 15 points, Lau- ren Cox 14 and Kalani Brown had 10 and 12 rebounds for the Lady Bears (22-1, 12-0 Big 12 Conference), who beat Kansas State for the 31st straight time. Baylor has also won 35 in a row in the regular season against Big 12 foes and 33 consecutiv­e conference games on the road.

Baylor dominated in almost all facets of the contest outrebound­ing the Wildcats 40-29, outscoring them 28-22 in the paint and had 15 more assists than KState.

The Lady Bears jumped all over the Wildcats in the first quarter, outscoring them 21-9. They led 40-22 at the half as Baylor shot 17-for-28 from the field in the opening 20 minutes. Landrum had 12 of her points in the first half, making all five of her shots.

Peyton Williams scored 11 points and Kayla Goth had 10 for Kansas State (1510, 6-7).

No. 6 Notre Dame 97, Boston College 47: Arike Ogunbowale scored 23 points to move into second place on Notre Dame’s all-time scoring list, and the Fighting Irish coasted to a victory over Boston College.

Brianna Turner scored 19 and Jessica Shepard had 16 points and 12 rebounds for Notre Dame (23-3, 10-2 Atlantic Coast Conference). Jackie Young scored 15 with 10 rebounds for the Irish, who led by 29 at the half and mounted a 23-0 run that left them with an 88-29 lead after three quarters.

Taylor Soule scored 11 points for BC (14-11, 3-9). The Eagles were outscored 58-32 in the paint, 23-6 on secondchan­ce points, and 22-11 in transition.
