Trump’s tweets uncalled for, but Dems also behave badly

- Robert H. Rogers, Tucson John Ershler, Phoenix Glenda Burns, Phoenix N. Brian Hopkins, Phoenix Gerald Kern, Scottsdale

President Trump’s recent invitation to certain members of Congress to return to their homeland are unfortunate, uncalled for and further divide America.

They are especially damaging coming from the president and should be aired by the free press.

Then there are the remarks by Rep. Jesus Garcia, D-Ill., at the broadcast hearings of the House Committee on Child Border Separation this past week.

Rep. Garcia clearly intimated that former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief Thomas Homan doesn’t care about these children at the border because of the color of their skin.

Rep Garcia had no evidence or any sort of indication this was the case. This accusation of racism is inexcusable.

Mr. Homan said he has served this country for 35 years. Probably a lot of that time was at the border, which is sometimes less than pleasant duty.

This irresponsible act by a member of Congress deserves condemnation from the media and Congress.

The exploitation of the tragedy at the border to garner votes is reprehensible.

I hope someday I can be proud once more to be an American

The United States of America, the country I love, has been so eroded that I almost don’t recognize it anymore.

We used to stand for human rights and the world respected us. Unfortunately that is no longer the case.

We used to have morals and were always there to fight for what’s right, but again that’s no longer the case.

We can’t even be civil to one another anymore.

Our country has been broken into “us or them” instead of “we.” I’d ask how did we get like this, but the answer is simpler than you might expect. Our representatives don’t do what is best for the country. They do what’s best for themselves, their party line, their donors and whatever organization pressures them the most.

We have a president who doesn’t respect anything – not the rule of law, not the Constitution and not anything that doesn’t help him.

I hope someday I can be proud to say again “I’m an American.”

‘Squad’ members have expressed their distaste for United States

It is safe to say no country can survive if it is run by people who hate it.

Based on documented statements by the four freshmen congresswomen called “The Squad,” they are not big fans of the United States.

In fact, they have voiced their disdain for this country. All you have to do is read what they have said since taking office.

The Democratic Party stands by their rhetoric. How can we survive if the Democrats ever regain all the levers of power with people like “The Squad”?

America doesn’t need to send astronaut all the way to Mars

We all know how Apollo 11 was an unprecedented achievement for America, something that uniquely inspired the country.

Now we are considering sending mankind to much more remote places, such as the outer planets, Mars for one.

Though such explorations would be worthwhile scientific accomplishments, the environment of Mars is not Earthlike as is often portrayed. It could never be made Earthlike, and is simply extremely hostile for humans.

Adventurous private enterprise projects would do best with this type of feat. Space research with public funds needs to be more efficient. Technology has advanced to the point that less costly unmanned space crafts, though less glamorous, can achieve the same results

Petty demagogue in Oval Office needs to act presidential

The country would be much better off if people stopped apologizing for Donald Trump and stop enabling his racism, bigotry and hate-mongering.

Maybe if he were held to the standard of behaving like a president instead of a petty demagogue, all Americans (and the rest of the world) would be better off.
