Interchange construction on Loop 202 will close portion of Interstate 10

- Mike Cruz REPUBLIC

Motorists heading to the West Valley and beyond this weekend should plan for a closure on a span of Interstate 10 westbound because of construction on Loop 202.

A span of westbound I-10 will close between 51st and 67th avenues until 5 a.m. Sunday so construction crews can work on the I-10 interchange with Loop 202, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation news release.

Westbound on-ramps at 35th and 43rd avenues also will be closed, the release stated. The westbound offramp at 43rd Avenue also is closed for unrelated work.

To avoid heavy traffic, westbound motorists can exit at 51st Avenue and use the access road to re-enter the freeway at 67th Avenue.

Alternate routes include taking Loop 101 west and south from Interstate 17 or exiting I-10 earlier and taking local streets, such McDowell or Thomas roads.

Drivers who are traveling beyond the Phoenix area also can take Interstate 8 west at Casa Grande and State Route 85 north from Gila Bend to the I-10 in Buckeye.

Loop 202 construction is scheduled to be completed in 2020, according to ADOT.

Additionally, two sections of Loop 101 will be closed until 5 a.m. Monday, according to ADOT.

There will be a closure on eastbound Loop 101 between Seventh Avenue and Seventh Street in north Phoenix for bridge work as part of a freeway widening project. Both I-17 ramps to Loop 101 eastbound will be closed as will Loop 101 eastbound on-ramps at Seventh and 19th avenues and Beardsley Road.

Traffic exiting the eastbound Loop 101 at Seventh Avenue can detour along the frontage road, according to ADOT. Other detour possibilities include eastbound Deer Valley Road and Union Hills Drive.

Northbound Loop 101 will be closed between Warner Road and U.S. 60 for a freeway widening project. All northbound Loop 101 on-ramps between Chandler Boulevard and U.S. 60 will be closed. Loop 101 ramps to U.S. 60 also will be closed.

Traffic can detour to northbound Price frontage road. As an alternate route, motorists can take northbound McClintock Drive or Dobson Road.
