TWEETS OF THE WEEK Mitt Romney

@MittRomney

The president’s comments were destructive, demeaning, and disunifying. The President of the United States has a unique and noble calling to unite the American people – of all different races, colors, and national origins. In that respect, the president failed badly.

Trump said he disavows “send her back” chant last night about Rep. Ilhan Omar. “I was not happy with it. I disagree with it,” he said. He was the first person to suggest she “go back” in a Sunday tweet.

Like me, President @realDonaldTrump’s problem with Congresswoman @ilhanMN Omar isn’t where she’s from but the way she: Belittles our country, Shows sympathy for those who tried to join ISIS to kill Americans, and ... Advocates boycotting our close ally, Israel, comparing it to Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. In her case and all others – it’s not where you are from – it is what you say and what you believe. This is why we have elections.

At its core, abuses at the border are not about whether some CBP officers are good or bad people. It’s about how our border policies are gravely dehumanizing, & strip all involved of human decency. Once you order people to violate others’ rights, a culture can quickly devolve.

THEY SAID IT

“The GOP’s membership is nearly 90 percent white and can only envision carnage and extinction as it looks upon a rights-based, religious, racial and ideologically diverse America.” — Carol Anderson Time

“Our Border Patrol men and women are heroes. Despite the constant disparagement in the media and by public officials, these dedicated officers show up for work every day and proudly do their jobs.” — Sen. Marsha Blackburn Fox News

“If this were a boxing match, you’d say that the United States is trying to let Iran punch itself out.” — David Ignatius The Korea Herald
