THINGS TO DO AROUND ARIZONA
Arizona Highland Celtic Festival
While Celtic competitions in which cabers and hammers are tossed require the sorts of bulk and strength children don’t possess, kids won’t be left out of the fun here thanks to the Oatmeal Toss. Yes, it will get messy. Other Celtic-based activities include piping, whiskey tasting, educational workshops and more.

As you browse the shops and restaurants, you may see a gunfight break out among desperadoes, or cowboys may compete in a quick draw. You could come across a medicine show or meet the Wild West Witches. Be sure to take advantage of the sidewalk sales, where you may get a smoking deal on a “Town Too Tough to Die” T-shirt.

Shootout on Whiskey Row
It would seem prudent not to bring firearms to a row known for its bars, but these gunslingers will be shooting blanks while remaining completely sober for a series of historic skits. Featuring the Prescott Regulators and Their Shady Ladies, the action will include gunfights and a shotgun wedding. There also will be vendors, food and auctions.

High Country Hummingbird Festival
Arizona’s White Mountains are a summer home for hummingbirds of all types, and you could spot hundreds in just a few hours. At this festival, you can see experts collect, weigh and band dozens of hummingbirds, a project that helps researchers keep an eye on the population. Learn about plants that attract the tiny birds as kids are taught how built their own feeders.
