Redhead revisited

See Lucy in full-color glory at the theater

- Samantha Incorvaia

Lucille Ball was born Aug. 6, 1911. To mark the day, you can see the redhead’s most beloved creation, Lucy Ricardo, as you’ve never seen her before: on the big screen and in color, along with Ricky, Fred and Ethel, as five episodes of “I Love Lucy” are screened. Vitameatavegamin not included.

The fiery, fabulous redhead is coming to the big screen.

In honor of Lucille Ball’s 108th birthday, Fathom Events and CBS are bringing five of the most popular episodes of “I Love Lucy” to more than 600 movie theaters nationwide, including nine in the metro Phoenix area.

You can watch “I Love Lucy: A Colorized Celebration” for one night only on Aug. 6, Ball’s birthday. The episodes featured include “Lucy Does a TV Commercial,” “Job Switching,” “The Million Dollar Idea,” “Pioneer Women” and “L.A. at Last!”

A brief rundown on each of the episodes, in case you’re not up on “Lucy” titles:

❚ “Lucy Does a Commercial:” The classic Vitameatavegamin episode. “It’s tasty, too!”

❚ “Job Switching:” “Allll ’right, girls.” This is the chocolate factory episode.

❚ “The Million Dollar Idea:” Lucy and Ethel try to make a salad dressing business.

❚ “Pioneer Women:” The husbands bet that they can survive longer than their wives without using anything made after 1900.

❚ “L.A. at Last!”: Lucy meets William Holden in Hollywood. Of course, shenanigans are a plenty.

Guests will also see a featurette called “Redhead Tales, Colorizing I Love Lucy,” which explores the process behind adding color to the black-andwhite images.

Tickets are on sale now for $13.58, a flat rate for adults, children and seniors, on Fathom Events’ website or at participating theater box offices. While supplies last, attendees also receive a free mini-poster.
