Lyft driver fatally shot in south Phoenix on 52nd wedding anniversary
A Lyft driver was shot and killed early Sunday while driving in south Phoenix on his 52nd wedding anniversary, Phoenix police said.
Harold Treadwell, 71, was driving for Lyft in the area of Baseline Road and 32nd Street when he was shot by someone outside of the vehicle, around 12:30 a.m., said Sgt. Maggie Cox of the Phoenix Police Department.
According to a post on the GoFundMe started on behalf of Harold’s wife, Treadwell and his wife, Frances Treadwell, were celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary and spoke right before he was killed.
The GoFundMe shared the Facebook post that Frances posted on Sunday after hearing about her husband’s death.
“I feel like I am living a horrible, horrible nightmare and that any moment I will wake up!” she wrote.
“Today is our 52nd Wedding Anniversary and we spoke right before he was killed and wished each other a HAPPY ANNIVERSARY (thank you God for allowing me to have that last conversation with him so I could tell him that I loved him!)”
Frances Treadwell said she was with her son when a detective knocked on their door about 4:30 a.m. to inform them that Harry had been killed.
Cox said police had no suspect information as of Tuesday afternoon.
