HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TWO-A-DAYS

-

It's time for two-a-days, a continuing series, examining each region in Arizona for the 2019 high school football season.

3A South Region

Tucson Catalina, Tucson Pusch Ridge, Tucson Sabino, Safford, Sahuarita, Tucson Tanque Verde. Sabino. Junior QB A.J. Skaggs returns after he passed for 1,600 yards and 20 TDs for 10-3 semifinal team.

Pusch Ridge. Expect winning season with return of top two rushers.

Safford. Returns enough from team that gave Sabino its toughest game in the South, a 20-17 decision.

Pusch Ridge junior athlete Evan Lovett. At 6-2, 200-pounds, he is a game-changer on both side of the ball, ran for more than 1,000 yards last year.

Oct. 18, Sabino plays at Pusch Ridge in regional game that will put winner in driver's seat.

3A West Region

Chino Valley, Kingman, Phoenix Northwest Christian, Kingman Academy, River Valley, Wickenburg.

Northwest Christian. The defending 3A champion never has a down season under coach David Inness.

Wickenburg. From 8-3 team, it returns seven defensive starters, led by defensive backs Michael Flinn (94 tackles last year) and Troy Adamo (great cover corner).

River Valley. Top running back moved to Maryland, but three capable backs should make up for the departure.

Northwest Christian senior athlete Cameron Adams. He does everything well, playing receiver, defensive back and returning kicks.

Aug. 30, Northwest Christian travels to Yuma Catholic, the team it beat in three OTs for the 3A crown last year.
