Ohio man charged after Facebook threat against Ocasio-Cortez

WASHINGTON – Federal prosecutor­s said Friday that a 41-year-old Toledo, Ohio, man was charged after making threats against Rep. Alexandria OcasioCort­ez, D-N.Y., and illegal possession of ammunition. According to the complaint, at the end July, the U.S. Capitol Police received a report from a person who’d perceived a Facebook post from Timothy J. Ireland, Jr. as potentiall­y threatenin­g against Ocasio-Cortez.Ocasio-Cortez has been outspoken about the threats that she receives as a highprofil­e member of Congress.

66 killed in floods, mudslides after days of rain in southern India

NEW DELHI – At least 66 people have died and some 360,000 have moved to relief camps following flash floods and mudslides caused by days of torrential rains in the southern Indian states of Kerala and Karnataka. India’s southernmo­st Tamil Nadu state also has faced severe floods and mudslides, with the air force being deployed to rescue marooned residents. Kerala suffered floods a year ago when heavy downpours amid the monsoon season killed 223 people and drove hundreds of thousands from their homes.

Chinese state TV: At least 18 dead in typhoon, 14 missing

BEIJING – At least 18 people were killed Saturday after Typhoon Lekima struck China’s coast south of Shanghai, state TV reported. Fourteen other people were missing after Lekima hit land early Saturday in Zhejiang province, the report said. It said more than 200 houses collapsed and 3,200 were damaged. More than 1 million people were evacuated before the storm struck, the official Xinhua News Agency said. That included 253,000 in Shanghai. State TV said 3,023 airline flights and some train services were canceled.

Explosion in Danish capital damages police station

STOCKHOLM – Police say an explosion outside a neighborho­od police station in the Danish capital, Copenhagen, has damaged the outside of the building but there were no injuries. The explosion occurred early Saturday and was the second in the city in four days. On Wednesday, a large explosion damaged the Danish Tax Agency. A large police operation was underway, but police said it was “way too early” to say if the two attacks are related. They are looking for a man in dark clothes and white shoes seen at the scene of the attack.
