ACC ROUNDUP
No. 1 Clemson 41, Syracuse 6: Trevor Lawrence threw for three touchdowns and ran for another and visiting Clemson beat Syracuse. Clemson (3-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) has won 18 straight games, a school record and the longest streak in the nation. The Tigers’ defense stood tall, limiting Syracuse (1-2, 0-1) to 187 yards offensively and sacking Orange quarterback Tommy DeVito eight times.
No. 25 Virginia 31, Florida State 24: Wayne Taulapapa ran for two touchdowns, the second with 2:34 remaining, and host Virginia hung on to beat Florida State. The Cavaliers (3-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) trailed for much of the night and looked to have blown their chance when Brian Delaney missed a tying extra point with 6:02 to play. A three-and-out by the Seminoles and a six-play, 72-yard Virginia drive capped by Taulapapa’s 2-yard run gave them the lead. The Cavaliers went for two and Bryce Perkins was intent on passing, but when the Seminoles (1-2, 0-1) applied pressure in the backfield, he scrambled away from it and finally slithered through the defense and converted for the points.
Louisville 38, Western Kentucky 21: At Nashville, Tenn., redshirt sophomore quarterback Malik Cunningham directed four first-half scoring drives before leaving in the third quarter following a hit to the head. True freshman Evan Conley finished up and threw a 62-yard touchdown pass on his second throw of the game as the Cardinals (2-1) dominated the Hilltoppers (1-2). Duke 41, Middle Tennessee 18: Quentin Harris threw for 237 yards and four touchdowns and also ran for 107 yards as the visiting Blue Devils scored 34 straight points. The Blue Devils (2-1) recovered their own onside kick after scoring a TD on their first drive, then Harris hit a 27-yard pass on fourth-and-3 as they scored on four of their first five possessions. Harris finished 24 of 27 with a 12-yard TD pass to Jalon Calhoun, an 11-yarder to Eli Pancol and a 25yarder to Aaron Young ruled good after review in the final seconds of the first half for a 31-3 halftime lead.
Miami 63, Bethune-Cookman 0: Jarren Williams threw for 254 yards and three scores, and host Miami gave rookie coach Manny Diaz his first victory. Williams went 19 for 24 without a turnover or a sack, and his scoring passes covered 22 yards to K.J. Osborn, 32 yards to Michael Harley and 1 yard to Larry Hodges. The Citadel 27, Georgia Tech 24 (OT): Jacob Godek kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime, quarterback Brandon Rainey ran for one touchdown and passed for another, and FCS The Citadel stunned host Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech’s defense allowed 320 yards rushing against the triple-option.
Virginia Tech 24, Furman 17: Tré Turner scored second half touchdowns rushing and receiving, helping host Virginia Tech rally past FCS Furman.
