BIG 12 ROUNDUP

-

No. 19 Iowa 18, Iowa State 17: Nate Stanley threw for 201 yards and ran for a score, and visiting Iowa made a big fourth-down stop late in the game for its fifth straight win over the Cyclones. Keith Duncan kicked four field goals for the Hawkeyes (3-0, 1-0 Big Ten), who also improved to 4-0 against Iowa State coach Matt Campbell in a game delayed nearly 3 hours because of lightning.

Trailing 18-17 in the closing minutes, Iowa State drove to the Iowa 34 before a false start, a slip by quarterback Brock Purdy and an incompletion brought up fourth-and-13. The Cyclones went for it and, after offsetting penalties led to a do-over, Purdy overthrew Deshaunte Jones near the end zone. The Cyclones appeared to get another chance when they forced a quick Iowa punt. But the ball hit Datrone Young in the back and Iowa’s Devonte Young recovered it, sealing the win for the Hawkeyes.

No. 12 Texas 48, Rice 13: Sam Ehlinger threw for 279 yards and three touchdowns, Jake Smith caught six passes for 75 yards and two touchdowns and Texas rebounded from its first loss of the season with a rout of host Rice. Ehlinger threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Roschon Johnson to cap the opening drive before throwing touchdown passes of 53 yards and 12 yards to Smith in the first half. Ehlinger finished 23 of 27 passing in less than three quarters.

Keaontay Ingraham rushed for 74 yards and had touchdown runs of 26 yards and 14 yards. Cameron Dicker nailed a career-long 57-yard field goal a minute before halftime to push Texas’ lead to 31-0.

D’Shawn Jamison put the icing on the win for Texas with a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with a minute left. West Virginia 44, North Carolina State 27: Austin Kendall threw three touchdown passes to lead host West Virginia. Kennedy McKoy helped West Virginia’s run game break out of a slump with a pair of scores, and the Mountaineers (2-1) had by far their highest offensive production of the season. Kendall went 27 of 40 for 272 yards with an interception. North Carolina State (2-1) managed just 97 yards of offense in the second half. Sophomore Matthew McKay threw a first-quarter touchdown pass but was harassed all game. McKay finished 23 of 48 for 207 yards. Oklahoma State 40, Tulsa 21: Chuba Hubbard rushed for a career-high 256 yards and three touchdowns, and Oklahoma State defeated host Tulsa.

Hubbard ripped off touchdown runs of 75 and 30 yards in the first four minutes of the game. His first score came on the first play from scrimmage, ten seconds into the game.

The Cowboys (3-0) opened up a 17-0 lead before Tulsa recovered.
