Community waters

Community Fishing Program waters have been stocked with trout for the fall/winter season, according to the Arizona Game and Fish Department. A 16-inch rainbow was caught at Dead Horse Ranch State Park recently. Chaparral Lake in Scottsdale has a good population of largemouth bass that are often chasing shad on the surface. Use 3-inch white grub tails on an eighth-ounce white jighead. Informatio­n: (602) 942-3000.

Central

A 32-pound flathead catfish made an angler’s day recently at Lake Pleasant. The lunker was caught on a dropshot rig the was using while fishing for largemouth bass. Dropshot rigs as well as Robo worms and 5150 worms were also working at Pleasant, according to Richard LaPorte at Liar’s Korner in Mesa. Bartlett Lake has been producing on bass and crappies. One angler reported he and his wife caught 27 bass during a day-long outing using small, shadstyle swimbaits. Jigging spoons and nightcrawl­ers are working well on yellow bass in the Salt River lakes, especially Saguaro Lake. Crappie action is said to be picking up at Roosevelt Lake and bass anglers are doing well using spinnerbai­t and crankbait lures. The marina and resort at Apache Lake was closed last weekend and is reportedly up for sale. Owners blamed this year’s the Woodbury fire and flash flooding that blocked the resort’s main entrance. Colorado River

A state record redear sunfish was recently caught at Lake Havasu. The big panfish weighed 4.42 pounds and replaced the current record of 3 pounds, 9 ounces. Striped bass are reported to be chasing shad early and late in the day along the north side of Winsor Basin. Informatio­n: (928) 692-7700.
