Nala is young at heart
Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.
Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.
Nala
With such an exotic look, gorgeous Nala looks like she could have walked straight out of a jungle like her namesake or the wild cousin her breed is named after. This sweet Bengal kitty has a longstanding history with the Arizona Humane Society in her 10 years of life. Originally brought to the Arizona Humane Society in 2009 as a stray kitten, it is no wonder that she found a loving family almost immediately after being put up for adoption.
However, she was returned to the shelter a little more than a decade later when her previous family fell on hard times and did not have a reliable home to give this beautiful girl. After reaching out to AHS’ Pet Resource Center for possible alternatives to surrendering Nala, it was determined by her family that this was the best option to give her the life she deserves.
While in the care of AHS, it was found that Nala has allergies that caused some scabbing on her skin but have been easily controlled with a special food. Friendly with almost everyone, it is rumored that this feline gets along with pups but can be a little picky when it comes to other cat friends depending on what mood she’s in. She tends to simply avoid younger children. And although she may have reached the double digits, Nala is young at heart and loves to play with toys with bells on them all day and then snuggle up with her favorite human once she has lost interest in that.
How to adopt: Nala is available for adoption and would love to meet her forever family. She is currently with an AHS Foster Hero, as she does best in a home setting rather than a shelter. To set up a meet and greet with her, call 602-997-7585 ext. 2145 and ask for animal number 283129. Nala’s adoption fee is waived thanks to a generous donor and includes her spay surgery, current vaccinations, a microchip and a free follow-up wellness exam with a VCA Animal Hospital.
