Sen. McSally comes out as McSheep on impeachment

- EJ Montini

Sen. Martha McSally has made it known that she will play the part of a good little lamb in the herd of Republican sheep during any upcoming impeachment trial.

The Associated Press got its hands on a recording of McSally rallying the Republican troops in Tucson, saying the “only abuse of power that we’ve seen going on” is from Democrats.

McSally also chimed in with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, saying Republicans are “working closely with the White House” on the process for a supposed impeachment trial. During which, apparently, McSally would join McConnell and the other Republicans in ignoring their oaths and simply attacking the opposition.

“We have a similar sort of shrewd strategic objective about ... how to stick it to these guys for overreaching and what they’re doing, and make sure that we continue to highlight the abuse of power that actually they have conducted, which is the only abuse of power that we’ve seen going on here,” McSally said.

So it’s not about finding truth and performing their constitutional duty. It’s not about putting country over party. It’s not about attempting to preserve the rule of law.

It’s about “how to stick it to these guys.”

Which would make the senator less a McSally and more a McSully.

Sticking it to the other guy rather than attempting to preserve the democracy is a sad commentary, but that’s what we’ve got. The noise being generated by Republicans is an attempt to keep Americans from concentrating on what is a very simply explained problem.

Rep. Justin Amash, the independent who left the Republican party over this, said in voting for impeachment, “I come to this floor not as a Democrat, not as a Republican but as an American who cares deeply about the Constitution, the rule of law and the rights of the people under our system of government.”

It’s how every member of Congress should approach the problem.

As for the reason for impeachment, Amash again simply stated, “President Donald J. Trump has abused and violated the public trust by using his high office to solicit the aid of a foreign power, not for the benefit of the United States of America but instead for his personal and political gain.

“His actions reflect precisely the type of conduct the Framers of the Constitution intended to remedy through the power of impeachment, and it is our duty to impeach him.”

In a statement to the AP, McSally’s campaign manager said, “Senator McSally takes her role as a juror seriously but hasn’t heard anything so far that would lead her to believe impeachment of the president is war

ranted, let alone removing him from office.”

Actually, if she took her role seriously she would say she’s waiting to pass judgment until all the evidence is presented during a trial and not talk about sticking it to the other guy.

McSally’s campaign manager added that McSally would “fulfill her role as a juror in good faith.”

Sorry, not possible.

“Working closely with the White House” and fulfilling “her role as a juror in good faith” are contradictory.

It would be like a juror in a murder trial working closely with the defense attorney.

Which makes any suggestion of independence on McSally’s part a

McSham.

She is, instead, a McShill.

And with all the other Republicans in the Senate a McSheep.

Which for her, and for the state, and for the nation, is really baaaaad.
