W. Virginia scores upset of Ohio St.

No. 22 West Virginia 67, No. 2 Ohio State 59: Miles McBride scored six of his season-high 21 points in the final 2:22 and West Virginia (11-1) rallied to beat Ohio State (11-2) in Cleveland.

The Mountainee­rs trailed by nine late in the first half but went ahead for good at 55-54 on a push-shot by Derek Culver with 3:31 left. McBride, a freshman guard, followed with two free throws and an 18-foot jump shot to extend the lead to 59-54.

No. 5 Kansas 72, Stanford 56: Isaiah Moss made three straight 3-pointers during a decisive second-half stretch and finished with 17 points, and Kansas (10-2) overcame an inconsiste­nt performanc­e on both ends to beat host Stanford (11-2).

No. 6 Oregon 98, Alabama State 59: Chris Duarte scored a season-high 31 points and host Oregon (11-2) pounded Alabama State (1-12) in its final tuneup before Pac-12 play.

No. 8 Auburn 86, Lipscomb 59: Danjel Purifoy had 17 points and nine rebounds and host Auburn beat Lipscomb (5-8) to improve to 12-0.

The Tigers remained one of two undefeated teams nationally after Liberty’s loss to LSU, joining No. 15 San Diego State.

No. 11 Michigan 86, UMass Lowell 60: Jon Teske had 25 points and eight rebounds, Eli Brooks added 15 points and host Michigan (10-3) closed its nonconfere­nce schedule with a rout of UMass Lowell (6-9).

No. 13 Maryland 84, Bryant 70: Anthony Cowan Jr. scored 19 points and host Maryland (11-2) beat Bryant (8-5) to end a two-game slide in the nonconfere­nce finale for both teams.

No. 16 Virginia 65, Navy 56: Kihei Clark scored five points during a 12-0 second-half run and host Virginia (10-2) overcame a sloppy effort to beat Navy (6-5).

No. 20 Penn State 90, Cornell 59: Mike Watkins scored 16 of his 19 points in the first half and host Penn State (11-2) beat Cornell (1-10).

No. 25 Iowa 93, Kennesaw State 51: Luka Garza scored 23 points and Ryan Kriener added a career-high 20 as host Iowa (10-3) closed its non-conference schedule with a win over Kennesaw State (1-12).

No. 23 Texas Tech 73, Cal State Bakersfiel­d 58: Kyler Edwards scored 18 of his 20 points after halftime and Texas Tech (9-3) pulled away to beat Cal State Bakersfiel­d (6-9) for its 54th consecutiv­e home victory against nonconfere­nce teams.

Top 10 women

No. 3 Oregon State 69, Cal State Bakersfiel­d 50: Taylor Jones had 16 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks to lead Oregon State past Cal State Bakersfiel­d.

Oregon State (12-0) concluded its non-conference schedule unbeaten and is off to its best start in school history.

No. 7 Louisville 62, Syracuse 58: Jazmine Jones scored 24 points to lead Louisville over Syracuse in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both schools.

Her free throws with 1:19 left gave the Cardinals (12-1) the lead for good as the teams traded the lead in the fourth quarter.

No. 8 Florida State 86, Virginia Tech 62: Nausia Woolfolk scored 21 points and Nicki Ekhomu added 16 points as Florida State won its first 13 games for the first time in school history with a victory over Virginia Tech.

No. 9 North Carolina State 72, Boston College 54: Kia Crutchfiel­d scored 14 points and North Carolina State beat Boston College.

NC State (12-0, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) handed the Eagles (7-6, 0-2) their first home loss of the season.

No. 10 UCLA 83, USC 59: Japreece Dean and Michaela Onyenwere each scored 21 points to lead UCLA to a win over crosstown rival USC.

UCLA (12-0, 1-0 Pac-12) kept its undefeated season going and started Pac-12 Conference with a victory.
