The team behind Modern Round, the virtual shooting venue in Peoria, plans to bring an even bigger entertainment concept to the East Valley this year.

Phoenix-based company That’s Eatertainment is opening a new entertainment arena and food hall at Mesa Riverview, near Bass Pro Shops. The project will span two buildings and an open air canopy, totaling 62,000 square feet.

Chris Castille, chief operating officer of That’s Eatertainment, said his team is going for a festival atmosphere — the kind of festival where visitors don’t have to buy a ticket to enter and can come any day of the week.

“When you go to a festival, you get to try all these unique food concepts,” Castille said. “There’s usually great music, a light show, a whole vibe that comes with going to festival. We’re just trying to bring it inside and make it more available to everyone.”

The open air canopy and north building are slated to open April 2020, Castille said.

The north building will house Modern Round, a shooting game based in a simulated world where wannabe gunslingers can test their reflexes and fight in the zombie apocalypse. The building will also house Morning Ritual, an all-day brunch restaurant with a mimosa bar.

The outdoor, covered area will have golf greens where visitors can play NextLinks, which combines miniature golf with technology to simulate the look and feel of traditional golf courses.

Castille said there will also be a stage area for live music a few nights a week, and video wall to show, for example, Arizona Cardinals games.

The south building is scheduled to open late summer 2020, Castille said. It will have a food hall featuring 11 different vendors, including a boutique wine bar and cantina.
