National restaurant and brewery chain Gordon Biersch no longer has locations in Arizona.

The restaurant brand, which is owned by Tennessee-based Craftworks Holdings, closed its Gilbert location over the weekend.

The restaurant, located inside the SanTan Village shopping center at Loop 202 and Williams Field Road, opened in 2007 and closed after 13 years of business. A spokesperson from SanTan Village’s management office declined to comment about the closure.

The Gilbert restaurant’s social media accounts have been taken down and the phone is disconnected.

The restaurant chain also formerly had locations in Scottsdale, Glendale and Tempe, though all are now closed.

All Arizona locations have been removed from the restaurant’s national website.

The first location of Gordon Biersch opened in Palo Alto, California in 1988, specializing in German-style beer and pub fare. Since then, the company has grown to open breweries across the country.

Each location of the chain features an on-site brewery and restaurant serving a menu of pizza, burgers and brewery staples like Bavarian pretzels and bratwurst.

On Monday, Feb. 10, the company’s website listed 17 locations across the country from Maryland to California.

The restaurant brand is part of CraftWorks Holdings, a parent company that operates restaurants including Old Chicago Pizza & Taproom, Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery and ChopHouse & Brewery.

Gordon Biersch at one point had four locations around the Valley, but the chain has been steadily closing its Phoenix-area restaurants over the last few years.

The chain first moved into the Valley in 1998, opening its first Arizona location on Mill Avenue in Tempe. In July, 2019, the high profile location close to the Arizona State University campus closed its doors. A north Scottsdale location had already closed a few months prior in April.

Glendale’s Gordon Biersch, located in the Westgate Entertainment District next to the Tanger Outlets on 95th Avenue, is also permanently closed.

Gordon Biersch is the latest restaurant closing at the shopping center, following Famous Dave’s in November and Cantina Laredo in January.
