After an almost three-month closure, Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix will reopen this month. Initially, only members will be able to visit.

The garden, which announced a temporary closure due to the new coronavirus pandemic on March 20, will open at limited capacity beginning June 16 and reservations will be required through June 30.

While there is no set date for when the general public can visit the garden again, members can bring guests by using the guest passes associated with their membership or by purchasing additional passes.

The garden will implement new safety procedures such as recommending face masks for visitors, closing some attractions, installing hand-sanitizing stations and promoting social distancing guidelines.

How to reserve tickets

Only members with reservations will be admitted. Tickets cannot be obtained at the gate in an effort to provide “a touchless admissions entry experience,” according to the garden’s website.

Reservations are complimentary for members and can be made at https://dbg.org or by calling 480-9413517 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Those who would like to obtain guest passes can also call that phone number to reserve them.

If you want more guest passes than your membership allows, guest admission tickets can be purchased at a 20% discount.

Desert Botanical Garden’s coronavirus precautions

Every 30 minutes, a limited number of visitors will be admitted to maintain a reduced capacity. Guests are asked to have their tickets either printed or loaded on their phones for scanning.

While most of the garden will be available for viewing, the Cactus Clubhouse, Ottosen Gallery, Gertrude’s Restaurant and select trails will be closed. There will be no docent-led tours.

The Garden Shop and Patio Cafe will be open.
