Wonderspaces Arizona, the popular immersive art experience at Scottsdale Fashion Square, said it would reopen Friday, June 26.

The 16,000-square-foot installation, which includes 13 artworks, closed earlier this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s reopening with stepped-up safety and cleanliness protocols.

Wonderspaces opened in Scottsdale in 2016 and really took off as a popular selfie spot for Instagram users.

Going forward, Wonderspaces will limit capacity, require face coverings for visitors and employees, provide hand sanitizer, install Plexiglas barriers and check visitors’ temperatures upon check-in. Timed and dated tickets will be sold online only to eliminate cash transactions.

Wonderspaces features artworks that have been shown at festivals including Sundance, Burning Man and SXSW (South by Southwest).

Among the current exhibits is “Rainbow Rooms” by Pierre le Riche. “Rainbow Rooms” features a home scene with objects covered with various fabrics and multicolored yarns. It is meant to reflect the artist’s experience as a gay man growing up in South Africa.

Another featured exhibit is “Into the Breath” by Stefano Ogliari Badessi. This installation is a Chinese dragon made of teabags that visitors can enter. Its calm environment is meant to be a meditative space.

“From Day One, we’ve been on a mission to present art shows that serve as a safe, welcoming, and local destination for extraordinary creativity,” co-founder and president, Jason Shin said in a written statement.

“We believe an art show can be a place to gather and connect with friends and family that is as accessible as the neighborhood movie theater, and as safe as the current health situation requires.”
