Silly Goob is full of energy

- — Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Goob

As if his squishy, kissable face was not cute enough, this adorable goober is appropriately named Goob to match his quirky, unique personality. The 4year-old Sharpei mix was brought to the Arizona Humane Society in April after a Good Samaritan took him to a local emergency animal clinic when they found him wandering the streets of Phoenix as an injured stray.

Much to the amazement of those who know this handsome pup, Goob continues to be overlooked by potential adopters each day and has found himself as the longest resident of AHS at more than 90 days in the shelter. A staff favorite due to his fun-loving spirit and perfect mixture of energetic and calm, goofy Goob is hoping there is a family out there who would love to give him the forever home he deserves.

Goob is extremely smart, a huge fan of playing soccer and fetch, as well as the most perfect gentleman when taking treats. He does really well with people but may do best in a home with kids who are at least eight years of age due to his energy levels and would be great for a home with no other pups and a big backyard for him to get his wiggles out in.

How to adopt: The Arizona Humane Society’s adoption locations remain closed as the shelter continues to rehabilitate pets coming in but its Virtual Matchmaking Adoptions by appointment is available to place pets with their forever families. Interested adopters can view available pets, like Goob, and schedule an appointment online at azhumane.org/adopt.
