Who will stand up and oppose those who threaten democracy
As a lover of history and a proud daughter of a WWII bombardier, I’ve learned that the citizens of Germany blindly permitted Hitler’s rise in power. This unbalanced, sadistic, anti-semitic narcissist was given full reign, resulting in WWII.
Out of fear, government leaders went along with his propaganda and repeated the venom. Those who opposed him were removed or disappeared. Those who stayed became desensitized to the growing corruption. Hitler was a master divider.
• He re-armed Germany, ignoring the arms restriction of the treaty of Versailles.
• He proclaimed the Nazi party as the only political party permitted in Germany and disbanded all others.
• He erased the power of individual German states, and appointed Nazi officials as their governors.
• He birthed the Gestapo and a police state.
Germany was unrecognizable. Our beloved United Sates of America is headed that way.
The similarities are many and chilling. History is our teacher. Will we pass the test? This isn’t a nightmare. It’s reality.
America needs a hero. A gazillion of them.

Our great land with great people; Let’s honor Annie Wauneka
A monument to honor Annie Dodge Wauneka, a historic Navajo who was conferred the highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, would be the ideal figure to honor at Wesley Bolin Plaza.
The great article by the Editorial Board made me aware of this extraordinary woman, as I’m sure it did many of you! Recognize Arizona for what it is – a great land that was home to the Native Americans (as well as the Mexicans who resided here before statehood).
Thank you!
That didn’t take long; only half a century for an editorial I like
The recommendation of the Republic Editorial Board to memorialize Annie Wauneka is a good one.
For once, I agree with the Republic Editorial Board. That hasn’t happened since Gene Pulliam was publisher. Jerome Petruk, Phoenix
OK, if the landlord gets bucks, do I get mine for a diving Dow?
Why do landlords think that they should be compensated by the government for loss of rental income because of the pandemic.
They are simply investors just as I am. Should I then be compensated if I lose money in the stock market?

There is a stiff breeze of Marxist dogma blowing in our faces
In an attempt to simplify a seemingly complex situation, allow me to share my impression of what exactly voters will be deciding come November.
Heretofore, we have always voted for who we think are the best people to lead our country.
This November we will be deciding whether to keep the United States of America with all its inherent flaws, or vote for a nation based on Marxist principles to be named later.
Be prepared to hear the buzzwords “social justice,” “economic justice,” “wealth redistribution,” and of course Karl Marx’ admonition, “To each his needs and no more.” Saul Arredondo, Peoria
Send the teachers into the schools whether students are there or not
Since most of the teachers don’t want to do in-class teaching until the science says it safe, I suggest they go into the schools without the kids and use the classroom for their online teaching.
That way the resource is being used and not sitting empty.
The teachers who want to stay at home should not be paid.

When the baseball people sound a lot smarter than our politicians
Republic Sports reporter Nick Piecoro quoted Diamondback’s GM Mike Hazen saying, “I think that discipline, maturity, leadership, all of those things, are going to play a huge roll in our ability to counteract something that nobody really knows where it comes from.”
This is from someone who works in a sport that is in essence a children’s game.
If he can be this pragmatic why then can’t the folks we have elected to protect us be the same?
