Hugh Johnson Doss passed away on July 16th, 2020. Born in Kimberly, Alabama on April 17th, 1934, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 9. Hugh graduated from West High School and served proudly in the Marine Corps. He loved baseball and played semi-professional with the Phoenix Senators. His career began in the warehouse of PBSW, a large regional office supplier at the time, from which he worked his way up to become Vice-President of the very same company. Hugh opened East Valley Office Supply in 1987, a family owned and operated business now in its 33rd year. He enjoyed his retirement at his beloved cabin in Pinetop, AZ. It was the simple pleasures of life that he enjoyed and cherished the most. He made sure all of the squirrels and birds around the cabin were well fed, and plenty of flowers were planted and beautifully maintained. Whether tinkering in his workshop garage or setting high scores on the golf course, a glass of scotch could always be found nearby. Sure as the sun will rise, Hugh had breakfast at Darby’s every morning with his good friends. He was the greatest storyteller, and was always quick with a joke. Over time, the masses came to know his middle name as Patience, an irony he could not deny, but one he would always resolve with his warm and loving heart. Hugh was well-known and generous to friends and family alike. He was proud of his family and the legacy which he leaves behind. He was deeply loved, is greatly missed, and will be remembered by many. May he rest in peace.

Hugh is survived by his beloved family, his wife Margo, his children Sheryl Bailey (Steve) and Randall Doss (Tammy), grandchildren Brandyn Doss (Tanya), Amanda Hagmann (Tristan), Dylan Doss (MelAnnie), Sean Bailey, Seth Bailey, and great grandchildren Ana Norman Doss, Aspen Doss, Connor Doss, Riley Hagmann, Remi Hagmann, Reese Hagmann and Rumer Hagmann. He is predeceased by his father, Jacob Wesley Doss, his mother, Mamie Gertrude Doss, his brother, James Berlin “J.B.” Doss, and his sister, Evelyn Marie Walker.

A celebration of his life is being planned to take place in Pinetop, AZ at a future date when it is determined that we can all gather safely.
