3 tasty Halloween events

Door-to-door trick-or-treating may be off the table this year, but there are places to find some good eats and beverages this Halloween around the Valley.

Trick-or-treating might be off the table for some this year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. But there’s still plenty of good eats to be had this Halloween around metro Phoenix.

Once again, Mesa sandwich destinatio­n Worth Takeaway will “dress up” for a “Bob’s Burger’s”-themed pop-up. Called Jim Bob’s Burgers, the two-day event will not only feature burgers (duh), but also limited edition merchandis­e and giveaways. Other opportunit­ies to eat and drink your way through Halloween in the Valley include a popup mercado in the West Valley and a vegan drive-thru and double movie feature.

Here are three food and drink events celebratin­g Halloween around metro Phoenix:

Jim Bob’s Burgers at Worth Takeaway

Worth Takeaway in Mesa will transform into a “Bob’s Burgers”-inspired pop-up for a two-day event Oct. 30-31. The Jim Bob’s burger menu will include more than a half-dozen burger options including variations topped with Sriracha candied bacon and sauteed button mushrooms, plus a chicken sandwich option for those who aren’t feeling like red meat. Beyond Burgers also will be available by request. Prices will range from $10.95-$11.95.

This will be a socially distanced event and masks will be required. Outdoor seating will be available on a first come, first served basis.

Vegan Drive-Thru at The Nile

Also in Mesa, The Nile Theater will host a Vegan Drive Thru event and Drive-in Double Feature. Beginning on Oct. 26, vegan food lovers can visit the Vegan Drive-Thru website (www.vegandrive­thru.org) and pre-order food to pickup at the Oct. 31 event, which runs from 5-8 p.m. Diners will be able to select from a list of vendors including:

● Maya’s Cajun Kitchen.

● Everything Vegan.

● The Nile.

● Doomrider Filipino Cuisine.

● Hot Sauce and Pepper.

● Republica Empanada.

Houldens Rise Above.

● Chin Up Donuts.

● ● Yumaf.

● Funshine Bakery.

● Wild Rabbit.

● Indulge Irresponsi­bly.

Customers will get a pickup time and assigned parking spot when they order online. During the event, food runners will deliver orders to diners’ cars to limit contact during the dining experience. Customers can also enjoy The Nile Theater’s Halloween-themed double feature, “Night of the Living Dead” and “Little Shop of Horrors,” starting at 6:30 p.m. in the lot behind the theater.

Tickets cost $5 per car.

Cultivo Dia de Los Muertos Mercado

Phoenix resident Jorge Mejia started Cultivo pop-up mercados as “a way to help small businesses that are struggling during the pandemic,“he told The Arizona Republic. The event from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 31 will be located in Tolleson at Avondale Boulevard and Southern Avenue and will be in celebratio­n of

Dia de Los Muertos. The event will feature a pin-up contest hosted by Las Muñecas de Phoenix, as well as a community ofrenda. Guests will be welcome to bring a photo of their loved ones and place it on a traditiona­l altar. The vendor list isn’t finalized, but the event will include more than 40 vendors, including Lolas Tacos and Baja Roots.
