Daisy (whoever you are), your vote is wanted — now!

I don’t know who Daisy is, but she’s getting a lot of texts on my cell phone.

On Sunday at 12:38 p.m., a text came from Nancy with Supermajority, a woman’s organization working for gender equality.

“We believe our government should represent all of us!” she texted. (Me, too.)

“Today we’re reaching out to voters in Arizona — like you! — because we want to make sure you have an easy and secure way to vote this year. We are hearing that many voters in your neighborhood are deciding to vote early in person this election. Can we count on you to vote early in person?”

“This isn’t Daisy,” I texted back. “I hope you have a plan to vote,” Nancy responded.

I texted her a link to a column I wrote about my son Sawyer and I voting early at the Tempe History Museum.

She responded with a thumb’s up emoji: “You are awesome! It is a good article.”

Thanks, Nancy.

Two hours later, at 2:34 p.m., Daisy got another text from Kaylyn with the National Domestic Workers Alliance, an advocacy organization.

“You might have heard from us recently about requesting an early ballot! I just wanted to check in again and let you know we recommend returning your ballot in the mail by Oct. 26, or dropping it off in person after that date.”

“This isn’t Daisy,” I texted back. “And we already voted in person.”

Just in case Kaylyn was worried about us, too.

At 4:18 p.m., my phone pinged again. “Hi Daisy, this is Debbie with National Nurses United, the largest union of nurses in the U.S. This presidential election is a matter of life and death for nurses and patients who are dying from Covid-19. Can we count on you to vote...?”

So Daisy, if you’re out there, I have a message for you: People are counting on you. I hope you make it to the polls.
