Tempe High School set to dedicate its new football field
Tempe High, one of the state’s oldest high schools in Arizona, will dedicate its new synthetic surface stadium fieldon Friday during halftime of its football game against Phoenix Arcadia.
Tempe and Phoenix Desert Vista both have introduced synthetic surface stadium fields this football season after the Tempe Union High School District approved the projects with working starting last spring during the pandemic.
For Tempe High, which opened in 1908, the project was funded in part by the Arizona Cardinals, via the NFL Foundation and LISC Phoenix, a national organization focusing on the community, according to a TUHSD media release.
“Tempe High is the flagship school of our district,” said Kevin Mendivil, superintendent for TUHSD, in a news release. “This new field is vital for both our Buffalo community and the surrounding area.
For a school with112 years of history and a deep base of support in the area, this kind of project is an absolute gamechanger.”
The field was constructed by Sun Valley Builders, Inc.. Shaw Sports Turf installed the new turf system. Both companies worked with Lloyd Consulting Group, the principal engineers on the project, the release states.
“We are so pleased to dedicate our new field this week,” Tempe Principal Brian Guliford said in the release. “We recognize and appreciate the deep level of support in our community for this project, as well as the generous support from the Cardinals, LISC, and the NFL Foundation.”
