Moose and Lynx are kitty siblings and best friends

- — Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Moose and Lynx

With the mission to save the Valley’s most vulnerable pets, the Arizona Humane Society works with a number of incredible rescues and shelters throughout Arizona who are dedicated to saving as many homeless pets in need as possible. This is how adorable Moose and Lynx, a special brother-sister duo looking for the perfect home together, came into the care of Newborn Kitten Rescue, a rescue partner of AHS.

Originally brought to AHS’ Bottle Baby Intensive Care Unit as orphaned, underage strays, Moose, the gorgeous black and white shorthair kitty, and her brother Lynx, a handsome gray tabby, were in need of additional specialized care when AHS was overflowing with prenatal kittens in July.

It was found that Moose has cerebellar hypoplasia, a non-painful but lifelong neurological condition known as “wobbly cat syndrome.” This condition affects her fine motor skills, balance and coordination but does not affect her quality of life as she is a very playful, cuddly and independent kitten who just needs help ensuring she drinks enough water each day. Although she is navigating how to live with this condition, Moose continues to get better each day and shows how amazing she is after learning how to eat and use the litter box on her own.

One look at the bond these sweet 4month-old siblings have and it is no wonder why they are in need of a family who is willing to give both of them the

love and care they deserve. Although they are extremely bonded, these cute kitties have pretty unique personalities, as Lynx loves to show off his wild side by sitting on his hind legs like a meerkat, chirping like a bird and carrying toys in his mouth like a puppy. On the other hand, Moose loves to find a comfy spot on the couch where she can enjoy the latest binge-worthy show on Netflix or quietly ask to be held by her favorite person after a long day of playing with her brother. Although they can be pretty different at times, both kittens could not imagine a better way to end the day than by snuggling with their favorite feline sibling in their new forever home.
