San Francisco stuns No. 4 Virginia 61-60

UNCASVILLE, Conn. – Jamaree Bouyea scored 19 points and San Francisco pulled the biggest upset of the young college basketball season, using a late 8-0 run to beat Virginia in the Homelight Classic.

Khalil Shabazz added 14 points and Taavi Jurkatamm had two big 3-pointers in the second half for the Dons (2-1), who were playing their third game in three days.

Reece Beekman and Justin McCoy each scored 11 points for Virginia (1-1), a 15 1⁄2- point favorite.

A jumper by Hauser put Virginia ahead 54-53 with 3:42 left, but that would be its last lead of the game.

No. 1 Gonzaga 90, Auburn 67

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Drew Timme had 28 points and 10 rebounds, Corey Kispert scored 25 points and Gonzaga cruised past Auburn in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.

Timme, who left the game with about eight minutes remaining, went 11 of 16 from the field. Kispert made four 3pointers.

Allen Flanigan scored 20 points to lead Auburn (1-1), which is replacing five starters from last season.

A day after beating No. 6 Kansas 10290, the Bulldogs (2-0) started strong in a game that tipped off at 11 a.m.

No. 5 Iowa 103, Southern University 73

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Luka Garza scored 41 points, missing just one shot as Iowa beat Southern.

Garza was14 of15 from the field, making all three of his 3-point attempts, and was 10 of 12 on free throws for the Hawkeyes (2-0). He also had nine rebounds and three blocked shots in 29 minutes.

It was 18th consecutiv­e game of 20 or more points for Garza, the lone unanimous selection to the AP preseason AllAmerica team.

with 13 points. Jayden Saddler scored 12, Lamarcus Lee had 11 and DJ Burns had 10.

No. 6 Kansas 94, Saint Joseph's 72

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Christian Braun scored 30 points and Kansas pulled away from St. Joseph’s to win in the Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.

Ochai Agbaji, whose foul trouble proved costly in a 102-90 loss to No. 1 Gonzaga, added 18 points. Jalen Wilson had 14 for the Jayhawks (1-1).

Jack Forrest had 18 points for St. Joseph’s (0-2).

No. 8 Illinois 77, Ohio 75

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Ayo Dosunmu scored 24 points, Kofi Cockburn had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Illinois rallied to beat Ohio.

It was Cockburn’s 15th double-double in 35 games for Illinois (3-0).

Ohio (2-1). Ben Vander Plas added 20 points and Dwight Wilson scored 12 for the Bobcats.

No. 14 Texas Tech 84, Sam Houston St. 52

LUBBOCK, Texas – Mac McClung scored 18 points, Marcus Santos-Silva just missed having another doubledoub­le as Texas Tech beat Sam Houston State.

McClung, who was Georgetown’s leading scorer last season, has 38 points in his first two games for the Red Raiders (2-0).

Santos-Silva, the graduate transfer who is the lone Tech senior after starting all 64 games for VCU the past two season, had12 points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes.

No. 15 West Virginia 70, Western Kentucky 64

SIOUX FALLS,

S.D. – Derek Culver scored 15 points and West Virginia rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Western Kentucky and win the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic.

Culver was named MVP of the tournament.

Miles McBride had 14 points and Taz Sherman scored12 for the Mountainee­rs (3-0).

Taveion Hollingswo­rth had 13 points to lead Western Kentucky (2-1).

No. 17 Houston 68, Boise St. 58

HOUSTON – Quentin Grimes had 25 points and eight rebounds, Caleb Mills added 12 points and Houston beat Boise State in the Southwest Showcase.

Grimes was 9 of 15 from the floor after scoring eight points on 3-of-15 shooting in an opening victory over Lamar on Wednesday.

Grimes scored 17 first-half points to lead Houston to a 34-19 advantage.

No. 22 UCLA 107, Pepperdine 98, 3OT

SAN DIEGO – Tyger Campbell and Jules Bernard hit 3-pointers early in the third overtime, and Chris Smith added a three-point play to finish with 26 points and lead UCLA to a victory over Pepperdine.

Senior guard Colbey Ross had 33 points to become Pepperdine’s all-time leading scorer but it wasn’t enough to keep Pepperdine from losing its 38th straight to a ranked opponent.

No. 24 Rutgers 96, Fairleigh Dickinson 75

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Ron Harper Jr. had a career-high 30 points with efficient 11-of-16 shooting, including 5-of-9 from beyond the arc, and Jacob Young finished with 24 points and seven assists as No. 24 Rutgers beat Fairleigh Dickinson 96-75 Friday night.

Montez Mathis added 15 points for Rutgers (2-0) as the Scarlet Knights led by as many as 26 in the second half. P.O. Racine had 14 points and 11 rebounds for FDU, while Rush and Jahil Jenkins each scored 16 points.
