Manfred, 10, is a home-run dog

- — Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

For any baseball fans reading about this adorable pup, you may think this sweet boy is named after the current Major League Baseball commissioner, Rob Manfred. However, it does not take an MLB fan to be an admirer of this Manfred, a 10-year-old Alaskan Malamute with the cutest ears in the National League West division and beyond!

Manfred was found as a stray by a Good Samaritan who observed him getting hit by a car in early December and immediately took him to a local emergency animal clinic. Although he was limping at first, he luckily did not have any major damage to his limbs, but it was found that he had a mass on his tail that needed to be removed, resulting in a portion of his tail to be amputated.

Now that this sweet boy has been given lots of love and medical care, as well as a fresh shave to get all the matted fur off of him, Manfred is hoping that there is a family out there that falls in love with his charm just like everyone at AHS has. Although he is a big boy weighing in at almost 90 pounds, this handsome fella is a very gentle pup who walks well on a leash, gets along with other pups and almost always has a wag in his tail. With a New Year’s resolution of finding his forever home to spend his Golden Years in, Manfred is sure to be the best of friends with whoever gives him the proper chance.

How to adopt: The Arizona Humane Society’s adoption locations remain closed as the shelter continues to heal and rehabilitate pets coming in but its Virtual Matchmaking Adoptions by appointment is available to place pets with their forever families. Interested adopters can view available pets, like Manfred, and schedule an appointment online at azhumane.org/adopt.
