Blue Jackets 3, Red Wings 2: Alexandre Texier and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored 1:16 apart early in the third period to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a two-goal lead and they held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Monday.
ISLANDERS 1, Bruins 0: Semyon Varlamov stopped 27 shots for his 29th career shutout, Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored with 4:09 remaining, and the New York Islanders beat the Boston Bruins 1-0 in their home opener Monday.
MAPLE LEAFS 3, Jets 1: Mitch Marner scored twice and the Toronto Maple
Leafs beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 Monday night. John Tavares also scored and Frederik Andersen made 27 saves for Toronto in first of 10 meetings between the North Division rivals.
Sabres 6, FLYERS 1: Sam Reinhart and Curtis Lazar each scored two goals to lead the Sabres to their first win of the season, 6-1 over the Flyers on Monday. Taylor Hall, the NHL’s 2018 MVP, had two assists for the Sabres.
BLUES 5, Sharks 4: Jordan Kyrou got the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, Justin Faulk scored twice and the St. Louis Blues rallied to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-4 Monday night.
Hurricanes 4, PREDATORS 2: Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho and Vincent Trocheck each had a goal and an assist as the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Nashville Predators 4-2 Monday night.
Nino Niederreiter also scored and James Reimer made 31 saves for Carolina.
Canucks at FLAMES, late: The Flames scored 2.9 goals per game while allowing opponents to average 3.1 last season. Goalies for the Canucks recorded two shutouts last season while compiling a .907 save percentage.
Canadiens at OILERS, late: Goalies for the Oilers compiled a .905 save percentage while giving up 2.9 goals on 31.9 shots per game last season. The Canadiens scored 208 total goals last season averaging 2.9 per game.
Wild at DUCKS, late: The Ducks averaged 29.7 shots per game last season on the way to scoring 2.6 goals per game. The Wild were called for 247 penalties last season averaging 3.6 penalties and 8.1 penalty minutes per game.
Coyotes at GOLDEN KNIGHTS, late: The Golden Knights averaged 3.2 goals and 5.0 assists per game last season. The Coyotes scored 190 total goals last season averaging 2.7 per game.
