PHOENIX – Joel Brotherton, 33, died tragically on February 6, 2021, from injuries sustained from a fall while hiking the Hole in the Rock Trail at Papago Buttes, AZ.

Joel was born on January 30, 1988, and was a 4th generation native of Phoenix, AZ. The son of John Lawrence Brotherton and Karen Margaret (Calene) Rose, he is survived by two brothers, Ariel John “AJ”, and David (Sara), twin sisters, Lauren and Katelyn, stepmother Donna Brotherton, stepfather David Rose, three stepsister­s, Allison, Jess and Ashley, niece Johanna, a very large and loving extended family, and many friends.

Joel attended Lookout Mountain Elementary, Mountain Sky Junior High, and Thunderbir­d High School, where he was a wrestler, played football and was the school mascot his senior year following a serious football injury. He went on to attend Scottsdale Community College, where he received two Associates of Science Degrees, then ASU and Western Governors University. He worked in the restaurant industry for years and became a certified mixologist. Most recently he worked in B2B sales.

Joel had a passion for writing music and playing guitar. He recorded his first album just weeks ago. He loved hiking and going to the beach, and his magnetic personalit­y and sense of humor could light up a room. Joel loved the Lord. He made friends and helped others wherever he went. He will be greatly missed.

A Memorial Celebratio­n will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at 4:00p.m. at Illuminate Community Church, Scottsdale AZ.
