The University of Arizona identified the student who was fatally shot in the area of a campus parking garage on Saturday in Tucson.

Forrest Keys, 20, a sophomore studying communication at the university, was found dead with a gunshot wound by university police at the Cherry Avenue Garage near Fourth Street and Enke Drive at about 11 p.m. on Saturday, according to Tucson police.

Keys was walking home with friends when a red or maroon Cadillac sedan passed by.

Keys was then fatally shot during an argument with people inside the Cadillac, according to Tucson police and Officer Rene Arriaga, a spokesperson for university police.

Police were able to obtain surveillance footage of the vehicle, according to Arriaga.

Arriaga said he is not able to share how many people were in or outside the car, identify the other individuals involved or confirm if they are students.

The Tucson Police Department has taken over the investigation and are treating the shooting as a homicide, according to officials. No suspects are in custody as of Monday evening, according to police.

Police said they are looking for a 2006 to 2011 red four-door Cadillac last seen traveling northbound on Cherry

Avenue.

Details are limited at this time and additional information will be released as it becomes available, according to police.

University and Tucson police said anyone with information about the shooting can call 88-CRIME (520-8827463).

Keys played football while in high school

UA posted on Twitter Monday morning that Keys “was a new member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.”

The fraternity posted on Instagram that Keys “was by no means ordinary. His kind heart and love lit up any room he walked into.”

“I’ve spoke to a family member of Forrest’s family, and as you can imagine, they are absolutely devastated at the loss of this incredibly beautiful young man who had an incredibly bright future ahead of him,” said UA President Robert Robbins said in UA’s weekly virtual briefing Monday. “I would ask that we all band together, support each other.”

Robbins encouraged anyone in the campus community in need of support to reach out to UA’s mental health services, the Dean of Students or employee assistance counseling.

The athletics department at Lower Moreland High School in Pennsylvania said on social media, “We are stunned, saddened, and heartbroken to hear of the tragic and sudden loss of 2019 graduate Forrest Keys.”

Keys played football and basketball for the school. The post continued, “You will be missed #23.”
