There is no proof the electoral system was broken in 2020 vote

Arizona has been a model for mail-in voting and complaints about it in 2020 have not resulted in any proof of wrongdoing. So, if it ain’t broke, why fix it?

By the very narrowest of margins, Senate Bill 1317 passed 16-14. And yet, it will set up roadblocks for people. The system in use requires voters be registered and their signatures be kept on file. As mail-in ballots arrive, the signature on every single one is verified (as Montini pointed out in a column this week ).

Now voters must send an additional affidavit of proof, which is harder if you don’t have a driver’s license or copier or access to a copier or perhaps transportation to copy another form of I.D.

And the affidavit must be sent in with the ballot creating an extra step and a possibility of an error. Why?

Voters will be required to re-register every two years. Why? If they haven’t changed address, it can be another roadblock.

Yes, voting is a privilege and if voters have to do it, they will. People do have other demands of jobs and family on their time. The task can be done, but the system was working without that hurdle and without evidence it was broken. In fact, county websites allow voters to check that their ballot had been received.

In part voting is being made harder because of a sore loser whose supporters were duped into believing Dominion voting machines weren’t fair. They should watch the progress of the Dominion lawsuits against those who made these claims. And the Senate should think again and not pass SB 1317 into law.

We’re looking at a turf war at the border and the dust is rising

As I saw the news regarding people crossing the border into our country, then deposited by Border Patrol in small towns across southern Arizona, I pondered why they are being dropped off in these areas. The answer came. It’s a bureaucratic turf war. The Border Patrol is looking for more money and control. By dumping these people it is saying to Biden and others, we’re in charge here and we’ll do whatever we damn well please.
