Gorgeous Jasmine is still fashionable late in her life

- Kelsey Dickerson, Arizona Humane Society

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

Each week, The Arizona Republic highlights a handful of the many pets up for adoption at Valley shelters. To check the status of a specific animal, please contact the shelter directly.

Jasmine: A timeless fashionista

As beautiful and timeless as the flower she is named after, Jasmine has had quite the story when it comes to her journey with the Arizona Humane Society. At 16 years old, this gorgeous domestic medium hair kitty has found herself back at the shelter yet again after almost 10 years of being in her previous home.

Jasmine was originally rescued by AHS all the way back in 2012 when she was brought to the shelter as a stray. Understandably, this cute girl found her home quite quick and spent nine loving years with her family until her owner became ill and was no longer able to care for her. With nowhere else to go, she found herself back at the place that first saved her all those years ago and is here for her again this time around.

Having lived with other cats before, Jasmine would love to be around other kitties to help make her feel safe and secure in her new home. It is also no surprise that this gorgeous girl warms up quite quickly when she is getting her pretty fur brushed by her favorite people — after all, it is not easy work staying this fashionable.

How to adopt: The Arizona Humane Society’s adoption locations remain closed as the shelter continues to heal and rehabilitate pets coming in, but its Virtual Matchmaking Adoptions by appointment are available to place pets with their forever families. Interested adopters can view available pets, like Jasmine, and schedule an appointment online at azhumane.org/adopt.
