Carilla to replace Lake, join Hook as Fox 10’s co-anchor
Fox 10 Phoenix news has named a replacement for former news anchor Kari Lake.
Christina Carilla will co-anchor the 4 p.m., 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. newscasts alongside longtime anchor John Hook.
“When I moved to Phoenix, I was overwhelmed with its charm,” Carilla said in a statement. “Three years later, I’ve been embraced by the city and consider myself lucky that I’m trusted to deliver its most important stories.”
Carilla has been co-anchoring the 10 p.m. newscast on Fox 10 since 2019. She also anchored the 7 p.m. newscast on KUTP, known as Fox 10 Xtra beginning in 2018.
‘Christina understands the importance of strong journalism’
“Christina understands the importance of strong journalism and has been dedicated to reporting the stories most important to Arizona,” Doug Bannard, Fox 10’s vice president and news director, said in a statement. “She has proven her ability to lead our evening newscasts, and we know she will excel in this expanded role.”
Hook tweeted a picture of the two of them, congratulating Carilla and saying, “We’re going to be spending considerable time together. I’m looking forward to it!”
Lake, who left Fox 10 in March, also tweeted congratulations, saying, “You are going to be great. So happy for you.”
It’s a higher-profile announcement than most.
Lake had been involved with various controversies over the years, and when she left the station she said she didn’t like the direction news had taken recently. She and Hook had worked together for years, a remarkably long time for a local news anchor team to stay together.
Hook recently was off the air, as well, after he contracted COVID-19.
Before starting at Fox Carilla worked as a morning anchor at WZVN in Fort Myers, Florida.
She also worked at KNWA in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
A graduate of Temple University, she is a classically trained soprano.
